India Women finished Day 1 of the one-off Test against South Africa in the driver’s seat as they were 525/4 at stumps. The hosts resumed their innings with overnight batters Harmanpreet Kaur (42*) and Richa Ghosh (43*) at the crease.
They extended their partnership beyond 100 runs and took the hosts to drinks unharmed reaching their respective half-centuries. India created history when their scorecard read, 580/4 as they recorded the highest team score in Women’s Test cricket, a feat previously held by Australia, who made a total of 575/9d against South Africa in 2024.
Post Lunch, Proteas made a comeback as Tumi Sekhukhune sent back the Indian skipper at the score of 69 runs. Ghosh then partnered up with all-rounder Deepti Sharma to add some crucial runs in the end, before the Indian camp thinks of declaring the innings after posting a mammoth first innings total. In the next three overs, India lost the wicket of the debutant Ghosh at the score of 86. Harmanpreet thought it was the best time to declare the innings and put the visitors in the backfoot by picking some early wickets
For Proteas Delmi Tucker was the best performer with the ball scalping two wickets. Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch walked into bat in pursuit of giving their side a solid start. Both the batters started cautiously and were playing the new ball well as they took the side unharmed till Lunch. Sneh Rana drew the first blood as she trapped the opposition skipper plumb in front of the stumps.

Wolvaardt managed to add just 20 runs to the tally. Bosch along with No.3 batter Sune Luus steadied the innings. Both the batters stitched a crucial 63-run partnership, before the opener Bosch walked back after scoring a 73 ball-39. Marizanne Kapp walked in next and took on the Indian bowlers from the very first ball.
Both Kapp and Luus took the score of 189 runs, and put up a 93-run partnership before Luus was dismissed by Sharma. South Africa were hoping to not lose any more wickets before the day’s play but lost Delmi Tucker for an eight-ball duck in the 63rd over with the scorecard reading 198/4.
