New Zealand has done what many other teams have failed to do since 2012. They are the first team in 12 years to win a Test series in India. They also won their first Test series and just their fourth Test in India with an emphatic 113-run win in Pune on October 26. On Day 3 of the Test, India managed to bowl out the visitors for 255 runs as the Kiwis posted a target of 359 runs.

The India openers started well but Rohit Sharma (8) fell defending a Mitchell Santner delivery again. Shubman Gill (23) and Yashasvi Jaiswal started building the innings but the former was picked by Santner again. The veteran spinner did not stop there as he sent the well-set Jaiswal (77) packing and was part of Rishabh Pant’s (0) run-out. Virat Kohli (17) tried bridging the gap between him and the spin struggle but Santner dismissed him LBW as India was reeling on 147/5.

While the spinner’s thirst looked unquenchable, he came out to clean up Sarfaraz Khan (9) as Washington Sundar (21) became Glenn Phillips’ victim. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin’s 39-run stand for the eighth wicket came to an end with the latter becoming Santner’s sixth wicket. Akash Deep (1) followed suit and Jasprit Bumrah (10) scored some boundaries in the end before Jadeja (42) departed aiming for the big shot.

For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner was in the best form of his career picking seven and six wickets in both innings respectively, making 13 in the Test. He was assisted by Ajaz Patel, who picked two wickets and Glenn Phillips one. Both teams will play the final match of the series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from November 1. New Zealand leads the three-match series by 2-0.
