IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill emotes proud moment with father with bow-down celebration in Dharamsala

On Day 2 during the fifth and final Test match between India and England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, ace batter Shubman Gill marked a significant milestone by scoring his fourth century. The emotional moment unfolded on Day 2 of the match, as Gill’s father, Lakhwinder Singh, was overwhelmed with pride. Witnessing his son’s achievement, the father couldn’t control his emotions, particularly when Gill bowed down to him.

Gill’s innings began when India lost the wicket of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal on the opening day of the match. It was in the 59th over he reached the three-figure mark, elegantly hitting Shoaib Bashir for a boundary. Displaying his exquisite form, the 24-year-old adorned his innings with 10 boundaries and five maximums.

After reaching his century, Gill, in his customary style, removed his cap and bowed down. The camera captured Lakhwinder’s heartfelt reaction as he stood up from his seat at the picturesque HPCA Stadium. With his fists clenched and arms raised high, Lakhwinder’s pride and joy were palpable as he celebrated his son’s remarkable achievement.

Gill becomes second-highest run-scorer of the series

The century in the fifth Test in Dharamshala marked Shubman Gill’s second in the ongoing series versus the Three Lions. Partnering with captain Rohit Sharma, the duo crafted a remarkable 100-plus partnership, each contributing with centuries against England in the fifth encounter. Gill’s stellar performance not only propelled him beyond the 400-run mark in the series, but also surpassed England’s Zak Crawley to become the second-highest run-scorer.

The 24-year-old batter has showcased his prowess throughout the series. His first century in the series occurred during the second Test in Visakhapatnam, where his exceptional innings played a pivotal role in setting a formidable target of 400 runs for England. Subsequently, in the   Rajkot Test, the right-handed batter narrowly missed out on another century, falling short by just nine runs due to a run-out by Ben Stokes. However, he redeemed himself in the final innings of the Ranchi Test, contributing an unbeaten half-century and forming a crucial partnership with Dhruv Jurel to help secure a five-wicket victory for India, consequently clinching the series.
