IND vs BAN 2nd Test, Day 4 Highlights: Belligerent India on front foot as Bangladesh left with difficult task for final day

IND vs BAN Kanpur Day 4 (Twitter)

Bangladesh would not have expected to be hedged into the situation they found themselves in at the close of Day 4, as it was a day that belonged to India in its entirety.

With the visitors starting off on 107/3 after two straight days of the game being paused due to a wet outfield, the first batter to fall took only 31 deliveries from the start of play as the seasoned Mushfiqur Rahim misjudged a fullish delivery from Jasprit Bumrah to have his furniture disturbed.

Mominul Haque looked the most assured as Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were all dismissed after scoring a few boundaries. Mominul eventually brought up a flawless 13th Test century minutes before Lunch.

Bangladesh could only survive 9.2 overs in the second session as Ravindra Jadeja registered his first wicket in the innings with the final one. The caught & bowled was Jadeja’s 300th in Tests, making him second-quickest to the mark.

With 233 runs ahead of them as the lead, the Indian openers wasted no time whatsoever. The pair of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal went all guns blazing from the get-go, as the motive was evident for everyone viewing. The skipper was the first to get dismissed with India making 55, but in a mere 3.5 overs. Not only did the hosts bring up the fastest team fifty in the history of Test cricket, but also the fastest hundred.

Jaiswal seemed primed to bring up the fastest century by an Indian in the red-ball format (74 deliveries by Mohammad Azharuddin) but fell for 72, bringing Rishabh Pant to the crease, which was a surprise with the team management not sending ace batter, Virat Kohli. The precise reason as to why Pant was sent out to the middle was accomplished perfectly by Kohli, as the flow of runs continued at more or less the same rate.

Batting on 47, Kohli was dismissed in unselfish fashion as Shakib secured his third for the innings. KL Rahul looked his unusual self as he upped the ante himself, bringing up an impressive half-century before falling for 68. The lower middle-order tried their level best but India declared at 285 to have a crack with the ball.

A relentless 11-over spell saw the visitors lose a couple of wickets with Shakib and the night watchman, Hasan Mahmud getting dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin, making for a riveting final day’s play as Bangladesh trail by 26 runs.

Here’s how X reacted to Day 4’s play between India and Bangladesh

Gotta love the aggressive mindset of even night watchmen these days. 😉
