Visting side Bangladesh went in with an XI which was more-or-less expected as per the T20Is they have played in the past, India went in with a youthful one, handing a couple of debuts at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, which was itself making its debut in the international arena.
India sent Bangladesh in to bat first. Arshdeep Singh was on the money in the first over, getting rid of Litton Das who departed for a cheap score. Parvez Hossain Emon was Arshdeep’s second victim on the first delivery of his second, soon after dispatching Hardik Pandya for a classical maximum in the previous over.
The much-anticipated speedster, Mayank Yadav, started his international career with a maiden before Varun Chakravarthy came back strongly off the tap he received in his first over of his return to T20I cricket to get rid of Towhid Hridoy, who stuggled to get going during his time in the middle. Bangladesh were grappling at the midway mark. Skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, fell right after. Mehidy Hasan Miraz anchored the innings the best he could, but found no support for himself. Hardik finally got in on the act in the final over of his spell and ended with a wicket to his name.
Mehidy, courtesy of the disciplined Indian attack, remained unbeaten on 35* off 32 deliveries as he was never allowed to break free. The man who started the damage, ended it as he claimed his third of the innings to bowl Bangladesh out for 127 in 19.5 overs of play. With an economy rate of 3.65, the joint-leading wicket-taker of the T20 World Cup 2024 was the most economical for India.
India’s reply was blazing as openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson seemed to take the game away from Bangladesh, with both batters kicking off their respective innings with several boundaries. However, the southpaw’s innings was cut short due to a poor call while running between the wickets. Skipper of the T20I setup, Suryakumar Yadav, came in and started with his usual fireworks without whiling away any time. He had done his job with a quickfire 29 off 14, with India comfortably placed at 71/2 at the end of six.
Hardik came into bat post Samson was dismissed and immediately got going with a boundary on his first ball. The star allrounder used his brute force and swag, while playing some of the shots, and seemed in a hurry to finish things off as he raced onto 39* off just 16 balls as a youthful Indian unit annihilated a Bangladeshi side which never looked on it from the outset.

Another debutant other than Mayank, Nitish Kumar Reddy, saw the game through by spending 15 deliveries for his 16 runs, as India got the better of Bangladesh by seven wickets with 49 deliveries in the bank to take a 1-0 lead.
