IND vs BAN 1st T20I Highlights: Young Indian side thump Bangladesh as Arshdeep, Varun, Hardik shine for hosts

Visitors Bangladesh went in with a more standardized XI with the first T20I of the series being their first one in the format since the T20 World Cup 2024, India handed a couple of debuts from their end at a venue that was itself making its debut in the international domain.

India had no hesitation in sending Bangladesh in to bat first. Arshdeep Singh struck in the first over, getting rid of Litton Das who had struck a boundary off the previous delivery. Parvez Hossain Emon, who replaced Tanzid Hasan from Bangladesh’s last XI they fielded, fell to Arshdeep on the first delivery of his second after dispatching Hardik Pandya for an extravagant maximum in the previous over.

The zippy Mayank Yadav started his international career with a maiden before Varun Chakravarthy, who was playing his first T20I since November 2021, came back strongly to get rid of a struggling Towhid Hridoy. Bangladesh were struggling at the halfway stage. Skipper, Najmul Hossain Shanto, fell right after. Mehidy Hasan Miraz anchored the innings but found no support for him in the middle. Hardik Pandya finally got in on the act in the final over of his spell and ended with a wicket to his name.

Mehidy was never really allowed to break free, courtesy of the disciplined Indian attack, and was left stranded on 35*. The man who started the damage, ended it as he claimed his third wicket of the innings to bowl Bangladesh out for 127 with a ball to spare. The joint-leading wicket-taker of the T20 World Cup 2024 was the most economical for India, conceding just 14 in 3.5 overs.

India’s reply was entertaining, to say the least. Abhishek Sharma was at par with Sanju Samson, with both batters kicking off their respective innings with a flurry of boundaries. However, Abhishek’s innings were cut short due to a poor run call, leading to his dismissal. Suryakumar Yadav came in and started with his usual fireworks straightaway. Despite him departing before the end of the powerplay, he had already struck 29 off 14, with India comfortably placed at 71/2 at the end of six overs.

Hardik Pandya came into bat post Samson was dismissed and immediately got going with a boundary first ball. The star all rounder seemed in a hurry to finish things off as he raced onto 39 off just 16 deliveries as a young Indian outfit completely demolished a Bangladesh side. Hardik tore into Taskin Ahmed who was the visitors’ most expensive bowler of the night. Nitish Kumar Reddy saw the game through by spending 15 deliveries out in the middle for his 16 runs as India trounced Bangladesh by seven wickets with 49 deliveries to spare to go 1-0 up in the three-match series.
