IND vs AUS, WTC 2023 Final Day 5 Stats Review: Australia’s dominance in ICC events, Virat Kohli’s feat and other stats

Scott Boland, Nathan Lyon, and Mitchell Starc handed Australia their first World Test Championship title, as team India lost yet another ICC knockout game. Australia beat India by a massive margin of 209 runs to be crowned the champion in ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. With this, they became the first team in the history of the sport to win all ICC titles.

Speaking of how the day panned out, India continued the chase with 164/3 on the board. Scott Boland struck twice within three balls, as Virat Kohli departed for 49 while Ravindra Jadeja got out without scoring a run. The duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Srikar Bharat added 33 runs for the sixth wicket before Mitchell Starc dismissed the former for 46 off 108 and Nathan Lyon soon joined the celebrations when he removed Shardul Thakur for a duck.

From thereon, Australia chipped in with wickets in quick succession to dismantle India for 234 runs. Nathan Lyon was the pick of bowlers for Australia for his spell of 4/41 in 15.2 overs.

157 – Steve Smith completed 157 catches in Test cricket, to become the joint-third in the list of most catches by Australian fielders in Test cricket.

1 – Australia became the first-ever team to win all major ICC titles – World Cup, T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, World Test Championship.

6 – India lost their sixth ICC final and equaled the tally of England, which is the most by any team.

932 – Virat Kohli aggregated 932 runs and became the player with most runs for India in WTC 2021-2023.

50 – Nathan Lyon completed 50 wickets in England.

18 – Nathan Lyon took his 18th caught and bowled dismissal, which is the second-most by an Australian bowler in Test. Shane Warne tops the list with 21.

5 – Alex Carey aggregated 100 runs and six dismissals and became the fifth Australian wicketkeeper to achieve this feat. The other Australian wicketkeepers are Rod Marsh, Ian Healy, Adam Gilchrist, and Brad Haddin.
