Ravichandran Ashwin took six wickets and Cameron Green smashed his first-ever international century on Day 2 of the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 on Friday (March 10).

Ashwin has joined Nathan Lyon to take the most wickets in Border-Gavaskar Trophy history while Usman Khawaja became the only the fourth Australian to score a 150-plus knock in an innings in India. Green recorded his first-ever international century as Australia posted 480 runs in their first innings.

India batter Virat Kohli also entered the record books as he completed 300 catches in international cricket. He took Nathan Lyon’s catch at first slip on Ashwin’s delivery to end Australia’s first innings. This was his 109th catch in Test cricket as he surpassed the former great Sunil Gavaskar’s 108 catches tally.

The 34-year-old batter has taken 109 catches in 108 Tests and is now only six behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 115 catches in 200 Tests. Among the active cricketers, Kohli has the most no. of catches in Tests, 10 more than Ajinkya Rahane, with the latter having taken 99 catches in just 82 Tests.

The former captain and the current head coach Rahul Dravid leads the chart with an amazing tally of 209 catches in 163 Tests while the National Cricket Academy chief VVS Laxman is second among Indian cricketers with 135 catches in 134 Tests.

In ODIs, Virat Kohli is second among Indian cricketers with 141 catches in 271 matches. The former star batter Mohammad Azharuddin leads the chart in ODIs with 156 catches in 334 matches. Kohli has taken 50 catches in 115 T20Is and is only behind Rohit Sharma who has taken 58 catches in 148 matches so far.

As far as the ongoing Test in Ahmedabad is concerned, India are currently 444 runs behind the visitors in their first innings. But the hosts have all of their wickets intact and would look to reduce the deficit on Day 3 and inch closer to Australia’s first innings total of 480.
