In the third ODI of the series between IND vs AUS, the visitors emerged victorious, defeating India by 66 runs. This win gave Australia their first victory in the series, as India had previously won the first two matches under the captaincy of KL Rahul.

In the award presentation ceremony after the match, officials requested Rohit Sharma, who had led the team in this particular game, to come forward and collect the winning trophy. However, Rohit displayed great sportsmanship and humility by refusing to accept the trophy himself. Instead, he insisted that KL Rahul, under whose captaincy India had won the first two matches, should be the one to receive the trophy.

Rohit’s gesture highlighted his respect for his teammate and acknowledged KL Rahul’s contribution to India‘s success in the series so far.

David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne all scored half-centuries, leading Australia to their best batting performance of the series. Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets for India, while Washington Sundar was the team’s best bowler in terms of economy rate with figures of 0/48 in 10 overs.

In the chase of a target of 353, India started well with contributions from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals and no partnership could stand for long, resulting in a 66-run victory for Australia. Glenn Maxwell took four wickets for Australia, while Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Cameron Green, and Tanveer Sangha took one each.

The two teams will next face each other at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 on October 8 at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The much-awaited World Cup is all set to kick off on October 5 with a game between the finalists of the last edition, England and New Zealand
