Ace Indian pacer Mohammed Shami funnily trolled captain Rohit Sharma and former head coach Rahul Dravid at the recent CEAT Cricket Awards. Shami’s exclusion from India’s playing XI in the initial matches of the ODI World Cup had raised eyebrows among fans.

However, when given the opportunity following Hardik Pandya’s injury, Shami grabbed the opportunity with both hands, emerging as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker. Interestingly, Shami was asked about his knack for making spectacular comebacks during the awards ceremony after being initially sidelined, to which he stated that he has been habitual in making these comebacks.

“I’m habitual to it, I think. In 2015, 2019, and 2023, I had the same start. When I was given a chance, the performances, thanks to god, they never thought of dropping me again,” Shami said.

“You can call to hard work, but I’m always ready for a chance. Only when you’re ready can you prove yourself. Otherwise, I can only run to the field to give water! It’s better to seize the opportunity when you get it,” he added.

The pacer was initially set to make his comeback in the Duleep Trophy, but his return has been slightly delayed. Nevertheless, Shami’s inclusion in West Bengal’s 31-player probables list for the upcoming domestic season is a positive sign for him and the Indian team.
