England fast bowler Jofra Archer has been going through a tough time in his career as he’s been once again ruled out of the entire English summer due to a recurring stress fracture in his right elbow. The speedster last featured in IPL 2023 where he could only play five matches with his injury troubling him throughout the tournament.

During the tragic time in his career, Archer got support from his former captain Eoin Morgan who checked on him. Revealing about his conversation with the fast bowler, Morgan said that he extended support to Archer and told him that he will find a way back.

“I have spoken to him. ‘I was lucky enough to get to know a lot of players during my career and a lot of them are good friends so I messaged him as a friend as opposed to anything else. Just to make sure everything is okay and tell him there’s always a way back. Sometimes you can struggle to see that after this kind of setback. So, it was just a message of support really,” Morgan was quoted as saying by Metro.co.uk.

Notably, Archer made a comeback to international cricket after 22 months earlier this year during the ODI series between South Africa and England. However, his hopes of being a part of another Ashes series at home were crushed when his elbow injury began troubling him again during the IPL. The 28-year-old last played for England during the T20I series against Bangladesh in March 2023.

The speedster etched his name in history books as he bowled England to victory in the Super Over of the 2019 ODI World Cup final. Archer picked up 20 wickets during the World Cup and was the third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament.

He will miss a very important summer for English cricket: Morgan

Further talking about his former teammate, Morgan said that he’s devastated for Archer and he will miss an important summer for English cricket.

“I’m devastated for him. He’s just spending some time away at the moment. Honestly, it couldn’t be much worse. He had 18 months out of the game, came back, and felt good. Now he’s got another setback and will miss a very important summer for English cricket,” Morgan added.

Archer was the third-highest wicket-taker of the Ashes 2019 with 22 scalps to his name. He had a great battle with star Australian batter Steve Smith who got hit on his neck while facing Archer during the second Test of the series. The speedster will be a big miss for England as they lock horns with Australia in the first Ashes Test from June 16 at Edgbaston.
