I’m confident Team India will win the World Cup: Poonam Yadav

Poonam Yadav confident of India’s chances

There has been a lot of conversation revolving around the chances of India Women going all the way and clinching their first-ever title at the ninth installment of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. They will be particularly determined to get their hands on the silverware after missing out in the 2020 edition of the tournament, where they got convincingly defeated by the Australians in a completely one-sided encounter.

India Women’s leg-spinner, who has not been included in the 18-member squad for the marquee tournament, recently revealed the extensive preparation which the contingent had undergone at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and its signficance. She was utterly certain on the Indians winning the competition this time around.

“Coach Amol Mazumdar has focused extensively on improving the team’s fielding and fitness. He also organised a 10-day skill camp. I believe things are improving, and all the girls in the camp have been working hard. When you’re part of such a camp, you gain clarity about your playing position, who plays a key role at which position, and where you should be bowling. It helps rectify mistakes, ensuring you don’t repeat them in the World Cup. I’m confident Team India will win the World Cup,” stated Poonam, speaking exclusively on Star Sports’ Follow the Blues.

They continued their fine form in the Women’s Asia Cup by winning four on the trot before losing to the hosts in the final. The Indian contingent travelling to the UAE would be keen on playing each match with a clear plan in mind and hopefully clinching the Women’s T20 World Cup title on this occasion.
