MS Dhoni has been one of the most loved cricketers in the world, especially because of the reputation he built for winning games for the team successfully over the years. In One-Day Internationals (ODIs) format, Dhoni boasts an average of 51.01 in 145 innings, scoring 4849 runs, which also includes 35 half-centuries and two centuries. He also remained not out a massive 50 times during run chases, which earned him the tag of one of the best finishers internationally.

However, the cricketer had made a surprising revelation that he doesn’t bother to bat or contribute individually if he believes that the team is winning comfortably. He further said that in a team sport, the job is to win the match as a team and personal milestones don’t matter much. However, the Chennai Super Kings veteran said that this belief applied only when he was an actively playing for India.

“I love challenges, but I don’t crave it. If we are winning the match peacefully, I am not getting the batting, I’m happy. But I am talking about India. I just want India to win. I don’t want the match to end in the last over. Who has scored the run, who has won the wicket, what’s happened? I am not bothered. Our job is to win the match, and if we win the match, we can go home. That’s what is important,” Dhoni said on a podcast with Raj Shamani.

“If I get a chance, I want to contribute. It doesn’t have to be 100% contribution. It should be whatever is important for the team, because I used to bat down the order. So, if I can score, maybe 30 runs in 15 deliveries, it’s a very big contribution. So, anything where I can contribute,” the Ranchi-born added.

Speaking of the 43-year-old’s performance in IPL 2025, the CSK cricketer has been exceptional with this wicketkeeping and a few blazingly fast stumpings and run-outs have been put on display by the experienced gloves man. Dhoni’s batting hasn’t clicked to its full swing, but the tournament has just started, and he would hope to elevate his performances with the bat, which can also help the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side win their sixth trophy.
