Star Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry will be 37 by the time Los Angeles hosts the Olympics in 2028. It is now confirmed that cricket will be a part of the Games and speaking about her ambition, Perry mentioned that she would love to feature in the global event.

Perry made her international debut in 2007 and the Sydney-born cricketer has won multiple world titles, including the Commonwealth Games in 2022. Featuring in the Olympics and winning it would add another laurel to her illustrious career but Perry isn’t thinking far ahead at the moment. The all-rounder mentioned that she hasn’t pinned on a date for retirement but would love to continue till the Olympics.

“I don’t think I’m the kind of person that wants to pin a date on a retirement. I’ve never looked at it like that. If I’m still there and available and good enough, I’d like to be there. I haven’t set a target on playing at the Olympics, but if I’m still around and good enough, I’d absolutely love to be there,” Perry told BBC.

Don’t think there’s ever been a huge gap between England and Australia: Perry

Perry is currently leading Birmingham Phoenix in The Women’s Hundred and will reunite with her national teammates to prepare for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh after the 100-ball tournament is over. Ahead of that, Perry lauded arch-rivals England and stated that a great number of cricketers are bursting into the scene at an early age. She added that Australia win tournaments as they have a knack for doing well in crunch situations and mentioned she was happy to see all teams playing consistently now in international cricket.

“England have been in tremendous form and are playing some great cricket. Really excitingly there are a great number of younger players coming through on the domestic scene here. I don’t think there’s ever been a huge gap between England and Australia. The Australian team have had the knack of winning the big moments. All sides are playing really consistently now and have a really good handle of the way they want to play,” Perry said.
