Former India fast bowler Irfan Pathan broke down on camera after India secured the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados. The 39-year-old endured a lot of pain in the last 10 days as his hairstylist Faiyaz Ansari passed away in the West Indies during the mega tournament. Pathan was absent from broadcasting during the same phase and made his return on the night of the finals.

After India’s win, Pathan got emotional and stated how difficult it was for him to lose a brother in Faiyaz. He mentioned that his tears are coming out only because he is happy as he went through a lot of pain recently.

“I will not forget Suryakumar Yadav’s catch till my last breath. The Indian team may not know, but you guys know. The last 10 days were extremely hard for me. These tears of mine are not because I’m sad or things that happened in my life but these are happy tears,” Irfan said on Star Sports.

Batting first, India lost three early wickets of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav. South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj picked up two wickets, while Kagiso Rabada picked up the other one. With that, the Men in Blue were in backfoot but star India batter Virat Kohli reigned supreme. Along with Axar Patel, he launched a counterattack on the Proteas, which ultimately helped India win the game.

Kohli made 76 runs in 59 deliveries while Axar made 47 runs as India posted 176 runs on the board after the first innings. Shivam Dube’s cameo of 27 runs too was very impactful.

When it came to the chase, the Aiden Markram-led side was in the hunt for the majority of the time. The victory was on their grasp but the Indian bowlers stitched it away in the end. Heinrich Klassen looked dangerous but Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya were at their best to pull India out of danger.

South Africa needed 30 runs to win in 30 balls but they couldn’t chase it down in the end as India won the match by seven runs. With that, the Men in Blue won their second T20 World Championship.
