The newly appointed head coach of England’s women’s team, Charlotte Edwards, has some big promises to make ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 in India. The head coach, who was a former English cricketer, revealed that she is quite enthusiastic about joining the team, and her first goal will be to look at the fitness of the team.

Edwards wants every team member to be fit and ready for the upcoming World Cup. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) uploaded a video on social media where the head coach spoke about her plans with the team and the ICC event.

“My first week next week will be profiling so I will judge for myself about where the team are with their fitness. I will make the players more accountable for their fitness. There are many aspects to this. I know we’re closer than the 16-0 scoreline suggests,” said Charlotte Edwards in the video shared by ECB.

“I wouldn’t have taken on this role if I didn’t think that in six months, we could win the World Cup in India. We’ve got the playing group to do that,” added Edwards.

Head coach hints about England’s next captain

England’s head coach didn’t give clarity about the upcoming captain of the team. However, she did mention that he would announce it soon. As per reports, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, Amy Jones, Kate Cross, and Charlie Dean are the main contenders.

“It’s important that we get that person announced sooner rather than later. I imagine it will be in the next couple of weeks. I’ve got some conversations to have over the next week. I’m pretty clear on where I want to take the team and who I want to be involved,” said Edwards.
