Pakistan star cricketer, Mohammad Rizwan, has been one of the brightest performers for the country right now. His recent performances also earned him a captaincy role following the removal of Babar Azam. As a captain, Rizwan has often had to address multiple press conferences, team huddles, and match presentations, where his poor command over the English language has often been criticized by the fans.

However, the Multan Sultans skipper, ahead of the PSL 2025 tournament opener, has openly addressed that he cannot speak English fluently as he could not pursue education, focussing solely on his cricketing skills. Rizwan feels that he does have regrets of not completing studies, but also believes that he must not be ashamed of it as a cricketer.

“I don’t care about it (my poor English knowledge). I am proud that I speak the truth from the heart. Praise be to the God, I don’t know English. I’m sorry I didn’t study, I don’t have much learning. But I’m not ashamed of it even a bit. I’m sorry I didn’t study. What I have to say is, they demand cricket from me. They don’t demand English from me. I’m sorry, I didn’t complete my education, so I’m being able to converse well in English,” Rizwan said in a press conference ahead of PSL 2025.

I will learn and come back: Rizwan

The wicketkeeper-batter further reckons that despite himself not being well-versed with the language, he keeps telling the younger generation to put their attention on the language while also honing their cricketing talent. The Pakistan captain adds that the team needs cricket from him, and does not demand a good English-speaking ability, so he does not have much time for it.

“I keep telling my juniors that they should study English well. They should say that they can speak in a different way. I have a lot of regret. But I didn’t feel that way. one who is asking for cricket from me right now Pakistan. If they ask for English, I will leave it and become a professor. I will learn and come back. I don’t have time for this,” he concluded.

Sultans kick off PSL campaign against Karachi Kings

Rizwan will start his PSL campaign with the Multan Sultans, as they take on Karachi Kings at the National Stadium on April 12.  The team had a stellar campaign in the ninth edition, but lost the final in a last-ball thriller to Islamabad United. Rizwan & Co. will be hoping for going the extra mile and clinching the prestigious silverware in the tenth edition, which is already underway.
