India skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his stance on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s injuries as they gear up for a return to the national team. With less than two months to go for the eagerly-anticipated ODI World Cup, both Rahul and Shreyas are recuperating from their injuries so as to make their return to the setup for the global ICC event.

Notably, Shreyas sustained a lower-back injury prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 following which he underwent surgery and was forced to sit out for a couple of big matches, including the ODI series against Australia and the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final. Likewise, keeper-batter Rahul has remained out of action after he was ruled out midway through the IPL 2023 owing to a thigh injury.

However, the two players are putting in the hard yards at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to recover just in time for the big-ticket competition in October. With this, skipper Rohit Sharma opened up on their injuries, stating that it gets challenging after surgery.

“Shreyas and KL are coming off not playing anything for four months, big injuries, surgeries rather. Both had surgeries. I know, I had to undergo surgery once and how it feels afterward, it is quite tough. We have to see, how they respond, what they do,” Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying by India Today.

Along the same lines, speedster Jasprit Bumrah is well on course to return to the setup after a long hiatus due to a recurring back injury. The pacer will be seen in action in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland.

In addition to this, Bumrah has been named the skipper of the side as the series is slated to begin on Friday, August 18. Meanwhile, the Men in Blue will turn their attention towards the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup following the conclusion of the multi-format series against the West Indies.
