Former India Head Coach, Ravi Shastri, recently came forward and talked about the performances of India skipper Rohit Sharma. It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma joined the Indian team in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25), from the second Test, and did not feature for the side in Perth.

However, in the second Test, the ‘Hitman’ failed to put in his best performance. Coming out to bat in the middle order, the veteran batter gave up his opening spot to KL Rahul, who looked exceptional in Perth. However, the move did not pan out as Skipper Rohit Sharma scored three and six runs across the two innings, respectively. Seeing Rohit Sharma’s performance, Ravi Shastri took center stage and opined that Rohit should have been more present in the clash and revealed that he should continue to bat in the top order, as he can be aggressive.

“That’s the reason I want him at the top. That’s where he can be aggressive and expressive. Just thought he was a little too subdued, just seeing his body language. The fact that he didn’t make runs, I don’t think there was enough on the field there. I just wanted to see him more involved, and a little more animated. You still have to believe that you can bounce back in this series. You have seen with these two teams, that the counter-punch is almost immediate. It’s happened over the last 10 years. You lose one, you win the next, but you have to have the belief,” Shastri was quoted as saying by IndiaToday.

I like the choice of words by Pat Cummins in Perth: Shastri

Furthermore, the former India cricketer pointed out the words of Australia skipper Pat Cummins. He opined that KL Rahul should go back into the middle order and that India should look to take some learnings from Cummins’ words as well.

“I like the choice of words by Pat Cummins in Perth. He said we weren’t good enough, but we weren’t as bad as the scoreboard showed. It would mean Rahul would go back to the middle order. But that’s what he was going to do if Rohit Sharma had started from the first Test itself,” Shastri concluded.
