Left-arm seamer Yash Dayal shone with the ball during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s second fixture of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday, March 25 at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The 26-year-old bowled a magnificent spell registering figures of 1/23 in four overs to help RCB restrict PBKS to 176/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Following his brilliant bowling performance, commentator Murali Kartik used the phrase ‘someone’s trash is someone’s treasure’ to describe Dayal’s journey from Gujarat Titans (GT) to RCB. Notably, the seamer was released from GT ahead of the season after he conceded five sixes in the final over against Rinku Singh in 2023 and was bought by the Bengaluru-based franchise in the mini auction for INR 5 crore.

However, Kartik’s comments didn’t go down well with fans who bashed him for calling the cricketer ‘trash’. In response, RCB’s social media handle also posted a picture of Dayal with the caption, “He’s treasure. Period. ❤‍🔥”

After the game, the Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer recalled the horrific night when he was hit for five consecutive sixes and revealed that he ended up checking social media despite being advised not to do so.

“To be honest, the problem began when the match was over and I left the ground. I was told not to go on social media, but I ended up checking it. Then I talked to my family. I saw what people think about what background I come from and playing cricket at this level,” said Dayal after the game.

“I fell ill after 2-3 days of that incident, then I recovered from it. It is not like I am the first person to go through all of this, and I will not be the last as well. So, I focused on the process, tried to play as many matches as possible, and get into a zone where I can tackle such situations,” he added.

Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror starred in RCB’s chase

Meanwhile, chasing a target of 177, RCB’s innings was held together with a magnificent knock by Virat Kohli who scored 77 (49) with the help of 11 fours and two sixes. However, he got dismissed in the 16th over with his team still needing 47 runs to win off the last four overs.

Dinesh Karthik (28* off 10) and Mahipal Lomror (17* off 8) rose to the occasion for RCB and took them over the line with an unbeaten partnership of 48* off 18 balls.

Courtesy of their stand, RCB chased down the target in 19.2 overs and registered their first win of the season by four wickets.
