I don’t think Virat Kohli is thinking about boundaries enough: Michael Vaughan

Royal Challengers Bangalore stand-in skipper Virat Kohli is one of the most consistent players in the ongoing IPL 2023 season. The legendary batter has smashed 333 runs in eight matches with a strike rate of 142.31 and with that, he is currently the second on the IPL Orange Cap list. Under his able leadership, RCB have won two of their previous three matches and only lost to Kolkata Knight Riders.

Even in the match against KKR, the opener led by example, scoring 54 runs off 37 deliveries. He set the tone of RCB’s innings but soon after he got out, RCB fell like a house of cards.

Meanwhile, analysing his overall performance so far in the competition, former England skipper Michael Vaughan stated that the 34-year-old is struggling against spin and that he isn’t thinking about boundaries much. He advised Virat to deal more in boundaries as that’s the ideal way to play in the shortest format of the game.

“I tell you what. I wouldn’t mind seeing Virat against spin. A lot of teams are going to bowl spin against Virat because his strike rate becomes different. I think it’s around 107 against spin so most teams are going to bowl spin against Virat Kohli. They are going to put three on the boundary and he is going to knock it into that.

“I would love him to dance down and wipe one out of the ground. I just think he is that good that he can hit sixes. His mindset in t20 cricket after the six, powerplay is to almost be there till the 18th over. I don’t think he is thinking on boundaries enough. He’s still got to think boundaries in T20 cricket it’s very important,” Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.

I’d like to see him take a couple more risks: Vaughan

The 48-year-old also analysed Virat Kohli’s innings against KKR and stated that since the middle order batters aren’t doing enough at the moment, Virat needs to take more risk and help RCB get over the line.

“He’s got the game, power and timing and say ‘Alright, I need a six’. He needs to bring that to the RCB team particularly situations they found themselves yesterday because you can’t just rely on cameos from that middle order. You’ve got to continue with the mentality of that first six. I’d like to see him take a couple more risks,” the former England captain added.
