‘I don’t think it affects the cricket too much’ – Jos Buttler believes having families on tour is manageable

England are scheduled to feature in five T20Is and three ODIs on their tour of India. The series opener will be conducted at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday, January 22. The upcoming white-ball series will be both sides’ final preparation ahead of the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy.

English white-ball skipper, Jos Buttler, had his say on the families of the touring team accompanying them.

“I think it’s important. We live in a day and age now which is a very modern world and it’s great to be able to have families on the tour with you, try to enjoy that. I don’t think it affects the cricket too much and it’s something that is very manageable,” shared Buttler in a press conference ahead of the first T20I in Kolkata, as quoted by The Indian Express.

I think it’s something that is very manageable: Buttler

Buttler further emphasized the utility of family members on the overall mental well-being of their partners, especially while touring other nations.

“I think it’s something that is very manageable. Personally, from my point of view, I think it’s really important to try and be able to share that with your family and lighten the load on being away from home,” he noted.

Interestingly, Buttler’s remarks come after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a 10-point disciplinary policy for players. One of the clauses relates to players having their families (partners and children) for a maximum of 14 days provided an away tour spans longer than 45 days. This diktat created quite a lot of buzz amid the cricket fraternity.

It is worth mentioning that since the commencement of the COVID-19 pandemic, players were allowed to let their families stay for the entirety of the tour. Along similar lines, it was reported that some of the players were unavailable for informal planning sessions and unofficial team gatherings due to opting to spend time with their family members. The protocols have been activated with immediate effect, which comes after India suffered a devastating 3-1 loss to Australia recently.
