The Indian team lost the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground, losing the five-match series 3-1 to knocked out of the race to the World Test Championship final in June. India had started the series with a 295-run win in Perth but lost the subsequent games in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney while the third game in Brisbane ended in draw due to rain.

After the final game of the series, former India batter Sunil Gavaskar was left fuming over team’s poor performances. Asked about his thoughts on what can India do to improve and what went wrong for them against Australia, a disappointed Gavaskar fired multiple sarcastic remarks.

“Who are we? We don’t know cricket. We just speak just for the sake of TV and get money, don’t listen to us, we’re nothing. Listen from one ear, remove from another,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

I certainly would have loved to have been there for the presentation: Gavaskar

Furthermore, Gavaskar also presented his thoughts about not being invited to the presentation ceremony for the series as Allan Border was asked to hand over the trophy to Pat Cummins, while Gavaskar completed his media duties away from the stage.

“I certainly would have loved to have been there for the presentation. After all, it is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it is about Australia and India. I mean, I am here on the ground. To me, it should not matter that Australia won when it comes to the presentation. They played better cricket so they won. That’s fine. Just because I am an Indian (I did not present the trophy). I would have been happy to present the trophy with my good friend Allan Border,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying by Code Sports.
