Ahead of the series opener of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, all eyes are on Indian star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The duo is class apart when it comes to the prowess in wielding the blade. But it might come as a surprise to many that Bangladesh have somehow managed to cage their wilds in red-ball cricket.
Speaking of Kohli, who debuted for India in Tests in 2011, has exhibited an unlikely picture against the Asian counterparts. The 35-year-old has batted in four innings in India with 378 runs to his credit. He has batted in five innings when touring Bangladesh and has just 59 runs.

Coming to the Indian skipper, Rohit has played just one game in Bangladesh and the other two came in Indore and Kolkata. As bizarre as it gets, he has scored just 56 in all inningscombined. But given he is dominating the run-chart in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle, the concern revolving around the stats might just be the calm before the storm. He will also become the seventh Indian player to lead the team against Bangladesh in Tests on September 19.
Eden Gardens is termed Rohit’s den as his record 264 runs knock against Sri Lanka came in absolute flair. But the venue saw another commendable innings from Kohli during the Pink Ball Test against Bangladesh in 2019. The right-handed batter scored 136 runs as India clinched the game by 46 runs with almost two and a half days left in the Test.
