The recent Super Eights clash of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 between India and Australia ended in disappointment for the Aussies and ecstasy for the Men in Blue. Both sides locked horns in the 51st game of the tournament at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, on Monday, June 24.

The game saw team India come into bat first, and instantly, the masterclass of skipper Rohit Sharma had the Australians shook. The veteran opener scored 92 runs in just 41 deliveries, helping his side post a total of 205/5 on the board in the first innings.

Furthermore, defending the target with the heroics of Arshdeep Singh and Kuldeep Yadav, who took three and two wickets, respectively, alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel, who struck once, India successfully defended the total, winning the game by 24 runs. With this win, the Indians advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament, where they will face England on June 27 at 8pm IST.

After the clash, the official X (formerly known as Twitter) account of the Delhi Police came forward and made a cheeky post about India’s victory. “This Just In: In a ‘hits-and-runs’ incident in the Caribbean, 11 Indian men have ‘stolen’ over a billion hearts. Initial investigation points out the revenge of 19/11 as the motive,” Delhi Police posted on the microblogging platform.

I wanted to bat with the same tempo and carry on: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma was undoubtedly the star of the show for India against Australia. The Hitman barely missed out on his century but did win the Player of the Match award. After the game, he came forward and talked about how his personal milestones do not matter and that he wanted to keep India’s tempo going, which is why he stayed aggressive until the end.

“It was a good wicket, and you want to try and back yourself to play those kinds of shots. I’ve been trying to do that for a few years now, and I’m glad it came off today. The fifties and hundreds don’t matter, I wanted to bat with the same tempo and carry on. You want to make big scores, yes, but at the same time you want to make the bowlers think where the next shot is coming, and I think I managed to do that today,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
