Veteran English seamer Stuart Broad called curtains on his illustrious career post-stumps on Day 3 of the fifth Test of the Ashes 2023, at the Oval, in London. The legendary seamer will be seen playing his last days of professional cricket in the last two days of the ongoing fifth Test. The 37-year-old has 602 wickets to his name from 167 matches at an average of 27.69 with 20 five-wicket hauls to his name.

Commenting on his sudden retirement, Broad’s mother Carole Broad stated that his son has made the right decision and rooted for England to win the Test for Broad. Notably, England have set a target of 384 for Australia to win the fourth Test.

‘We want to win it today. We knew for certain in the morning, our lips were sealed but yesterday was a great batting day so I had something to focus on. Of course you have conversations but Stuart is a master of making the right decision and he’s done it again,” Carole Broad was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Furthermore sharing her emotions, his mother revealed that she gets tingles whenever his son steps on the field to play for England.

“The first day I saw him come down the stairs I got a tingle and I still get that. I just really want them to win,” she added.

Broad is the second highest wicket taker of Ashes 2023

Broad etched his name in history books as he became the first English bowler to pick 150 wickets in Ashes history. He ranks third on the spot in the list of all-time highest wicket-takers in Ashes with 151 wickets to his name from 40 matches at an average of 29.03 with eight five-wicket hauls to his name.

He is also the second-highest wicket-taker of the series so far with 20 wickets to his name from 10 innings at an average of 28.90. He’s three wickets behind Mitchell Starc and will be eager to finish as the highest wicket-taker of the series by bowling England to victory in the fifth his final Test.
