Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali recently came forward and predicted that Pakistan’s current white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten will be fired after the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He also stated that it would be a huge achievement for Pakistan cricket if the side managed to finish in the top four of the tournament.
It is worth noting that Gary Kirsten was appointed as Pakistan’s white-ball coach earlier this year. However, despite being under Kirsten’s guidance, Pakistan suffered through a horrid T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, where they were eliminated from the group stages of the tournament.
Seeing the side’s recent performances, Basit Ali opined that Kirsten won’t be able to hold onto his job after the 2025 Champions Trophy.
“Congratulations to Gary Kirsten. He will be at the helm of the team till the Champions Trophy. However, he will be fired after the Champions Trophy. I am saying this now that it will be Tata, bye-bye to him. It will be a big achievement for Pakistan to make it to the top four. They have also stepped into the politics of Pakistani cricket. They won’t be successful,” Basit Ali said in a video on his YouTube channel.

I think we we all want a successful team: Gary Kirsten
Recently, the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) organized a connection camp in order to improve team building and sort out the unity issues on the side. He came forward and admitted that there were some changes to be made within the team.
“I think we we all want a successful team, don’t we, we want the team to do well in everything that they play in. And there’s no reason why it can’t. It’s a very talented cricket team across all the formats but there are processes that you need to put in place,” Kirsten said in a press conference.
“And this and I think that’s what we focusing on. We want to know that we got a robust system in the country and that there’s competition for places, and that our team is unified in its approach to competing against the best teams in the world,” he added.
