While the iconic Sachin Tendulkar celebrated another memorable half-century as he turned 50 on Monday, April 24, several former cricketers, who had the privilege of spending time with the legendary cricketer, shared their experiences. Former Indian cricketer and Sachin’s ex-teammate Pravin Amre also shared an intriguing episode involving the revered cricketer.

Pravin Amre, currently Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach, shared the dressing room with Sachin Tendulkar during his brief stint with the national team in the 90s. Amre travelled down memory lane in a video shared by the franchise, revealing Sachin’s incredible eye for a good bat. The story involved the 2011 World Cup winner exchanging bats with a local player during a benefit match. The former cricketer also revealed that Sachin went on to register five international centuries with that bat.

“There was a player named Prasad Pradhan in 93 and we went to play a benefit match for him in Pune. Local cricketers too had come for it so plenty of bats were kept there. There Sachin had this instinct, and he picked a bat and started tapping it on the ground. The bat had no brand sticker, it was a plain one and he asked the person, whom the bat belonged ‘mereko yeh bat dega kya’ (will you give me this bat)?

The guy was very happy when Sachin asked for his bat and happily obliged to Tendulkar’s request. Sachin then gave him five bats that were kept in his kit in return. Since I was his room partner, I noticed Sachin took the bat and pasted his contract sticker and I vividly remember he went to hit five international tons with it. All I want to say is that Sachin had the eye to identify good bats from a very early age,” said Amre in the video shared by Delhi Capitals.
