'He understands the game's DNA' - Aakash Chopra extols Yashasvi Jaiswal after his double ton in Rajkot

India’s win in the third Test match against England in Rajkot not only secured them their highest margin of victory in terms of runs but also propelled them to a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. India finished the match in four days and won the game by a whopping margin of 434 runs. One of the standout performances came from the young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who once again demonstrated his exceptional understanding of the game.

In Rajkot, Jaiswal’s stellar unbeaten double century laid the foundation for India’s resounding victory, setting a challenging 557-run target for England. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra, in admiration of Jaiswal’s performance, emphasized the young player’s remarkable grasp of the game.

“Jaiswal is a terrific guy. He had already hit a hundred, he scored a double hundred – unbeaten 214 off 236 balls, what a player. He is playing at a different level. He hit 12 sixes despite having pain in his back. He equaled Wasim Akram’s world record. He has just started playing cricket, it was just his seventh Test match, and in that, he has scored two double hundreds and a score of 171. Reminds you a little bit about the start of Vinod Kambli’s career,” said Chopra on his YouTube channel.

Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 214 runs off 236 balls, including 14 fours and 12 sixes. Chopra highlighted Jaiswal’s remarkable achievement, noting that it was only his seventh Test match, yet he had already scored two double centuries. Comparing Jaiswal to the likes of Vinod Kambli, Chopra drew parallels between their playing styles, particularly their proficiency against spin bowling.

“He reminds you a little bit about the start of Vinod Kambli’s career. He was also a left-hander who used to play spin very well. Jaiswal also plays spin very well. Of course, Kambli’s career didn’t pan out the way it should have because of a few off-field issues,” added the former cricketer.

However, Chopra expressed confidence that Jaiswal’s career trajectory would be different, attributing it to the youngster’s authenticity, flair, and diligent work ethic.

“I don’t think Jaiswal will have the same issue because he is very sincere, talented, and hard-working. He understands the game’s DNA. He took Jimmy Anderson down and how – he hit three sixes in an over. Once he reached 180, he said he won’t be in a hurry. He is not satisfied with a century,” Chopra concluded.
