IPL 2025 saw the emergence of a new, young superstar in Priyansh Arya, who scored his maiden century against a formidable Chennai Super Kings (CSK) attack in the Match 22 on Tuesday.

Priyansh Arya came into prominence after his performance in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) where he hit six sixes in an over and was subsequently bought by Punjab Kings for a huge price of INR 3.8 crore. Though Arya had announced himself in the first game of the season against the Titans, it was the last knock that has shown his full potential as an attacking opener in T20 cricket.

The opening batter had some failures before the two games, especially against the Rajasthan Royals, where he was dismissed for a golden duck. Arya’s childhood coach, Sanjay Bharadwaj, revealed that the young batter had called him before the match, which also gave insights into his mindset.

“Just before speaking to you, Priyansh had called. He said, ‘Namaskar sir.’ He then asked me, ‘Theek tha?’ (Was it okay?). I then questioned him about what happened yesterday. He then said that it was nothing but God’s doing. I didn’t do anything (laughs). I always tell him that it is God who is doing everything. God is just making things happen by your means,” Bharadwaj said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

“He called me at 7:30 in the morning. He slept at 2-3 AM in the night. He has always been like this. He is very down to earth and always respectful,” he added.

Speaking of the knock by the Delhi cricketer, he had completed his century in only 39 deliveries, which made him the joint fourth-fastest centurion in the IPL alongside Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) Travis Head. This is also the fastest century scored by an uncapped player in the marquee tournament, which was previously held by RCB’s Rajat Patidar, who scored his century in 2022 during the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants that season.
