The Indian batters are facing quite a few problems in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The one batter who has looked promising in 2024 is Yashasvi Jaiswal but after his heroics in Perth he has not shown the same level of consistency as in the earlier games of his Test career so far.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been one of the best Test batters for India this season, is going through a few issues which reflects in a string of low scores. One of the experts who has criticized him is India’s Gabba hero of the 2020-2021 BGT series Cheteshwar Pujara.

“He needs to give himself a bit more time, the way he is playing, he is trying to rush things, he is trying to play shots a bit more. He should only play shots if he is quite sure about it, especially in the first 5-10 overs because it seems that he is in a hurry to score runs, he wants a quick start, and he wants to score those first 15-20 runs quickly,” Pujara told Star Sports.
“When you are an opener in Test cricket then you don’t go out searching for the ball, you play the deliveries on merit. Even if you are an aggressive player, even Virender Sehwag was an aggressive player but he used to play shots only when the ball was pitched in his zone,” Pujara added.
In 2024, Jaiswal has scored 1312 runs in 27 innings at an average of 52.48 which includes seven half-centuries and three centuries. He is only 250 runs away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for scoring the most runs in a calendar year by an Indian batter.
