The Qualifier 2 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans and the five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 26.
After losing the first Qualifier, Gujarat came in all guns blazing against Mumbai Indians and registered a dominant victory to make their way into the summit clash of the marquee tournament. It was the knock of star Indian batter Shubman Gill that was influential for the defending champions in clinching the win.
Coming in to bat first, Gill scored his third century of the IPL 2023, amassing 129 runs in just 60 balls. His knock was crucial for Gujarat in notching up a mammoth 233 runs on the board and ultimately winning the game as well. His knock also saw him claim the IPL orange cap.
Seeing his brilliant performance, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma came forward to heap praise on the 23-year-old. Furthermore, Rohit also made a cheeky remark, referring to the upcoming World Test Championship final that is scheduled to be played from June 7. Rohit hoped for similar performances from Gill in the forthcoming games.
“All the bowling teams have been challenged this season; looking at what happened in the previous game, we had a great performance. Got to give credit to Shubman; he is in great form, and I hope he continues that,” Rohit Sharma said in the post match presentation.
