Suryakumar Yadav has been rock solid for the Indian team at the T20 World Cup 2024 batting in the middle order. The flamboyant batter has scored 196 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 137.06. He notched up 53 runs against Afghanistan and followed up with a crucial 31 against Australia in the Super 8s of the tournament. His latest 47 runs against England in the semifinal were gold dust and India reached the finals.
More than the individual stats, the batter has been the right companion for other batters to forge some important partnerships in the middle. Be it pairing up with Shivam Dube against the USA or a 73-run stand with Rohit Sharma in the semifinal, he has been impactful. India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin has lauded the right-handed batter’s contributions at the number four position for the team.
“Suryakumar Yadav is one of the finest T20 batters in the world. He is playing extraordinarily well. But, as usual, our people have been saying about knockout performances and big teams. But, he has put it to bed. The high-quality player that he is, he has shown it with his intent in No. 4,” Ashwin said on his YouTube Channel.
I know what Dravid has given each of his players: Ashwin
Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the Head Coach of the Indian team will end as India play the final on June 29. Dravis has contributed immensely to Indian cricket even after he retired from the game as a player. He coached the Indian under-19 team and has changed the dimensions of the senior team. Ashwin highlighted Dravid’s commitment to the team and the approach he brought to the dressing room.
“I know what Rahul Dravid has been doing with this team for the past 2-3 years. I know how balanced he has been. I know how hard he has worked to change this approach. I know what he has given each of his players. Even when he is just sitting at home, he has been planning how to do this and that,” he added.
