‘He has played most of the world-class bowlers’ – Yashasvi Jaiswal’s childhood coach lauds him for his debut hundred vs West Indies

Yashasvi Jaiswal etched his name in the history books as he became the 17th Indian to score a hundred on Test debut. The southpaw achieved the landmark on Day 2 of the first Test between India and West Indies being played at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica. Jaiswal got involved in a massive 229-run opening stand with captain, Rohit Sharma.

The 21-year-old finished Day 2 on 143* (350), guiding India to a score of 312/2, with a lead of 162 runs over the hosts. Following his brilliant hundred, Jaiswal’s childhood coach Jwala Singh stated that he knew that he would start his international career well as he’s played most of the world-class bowlers in IPL.

“I am happy to see him grow. I had some feeling that he would start well. He has spent four good seasons in the IPL and also in domestic cricket. He has played most of the world-class bowlers under a lot of pressure, especially in the IPL,” Jwala was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Jwala was delighted with Jaiswal’s brilliant start and highlighted the importance of keeping it simple and keep scoring runs for the country on a consistent basis.

“I think this will be a very good start in international cricket, but he needs to keep it simple. As a player it is important to do your best for the team, scoring runs for the team is a job for any player, and then look ahead,” he added.

Notably, Jaiswal had moved to Dadar in Mumbai, at the tender age of 10, to get training at the famous Azad Maidan. Meanwhile, the left-hander broke into record galore during his sensation knock. On Day 2 of the Test, he also became the fourth batter on the trot hailing from Mumbai to score a Test century on debut for India, along with the likes of Shreyas Iyer (vs New Zealand, 2021), Prithvi Shaw (vs West Indies, 2018) and the India captain, Rohit Sharma (vs West Indies, 2013).

Jaiswal scored most runs by an uncapped batter in IPL history in 2023

In the recent IPL 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal shattered record books as he registered the most number of runs in a season by an uncapped batter. The Rajasthan Royals opener scored 625 runs in 14 innings at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61 with one hundred and five fifties to his name. Apart from his IPL heroics, Jaiswal boasts a staggering average of 80.21 in First Class cricket with 1845 runs to his name which helped him break into the Indian Test team.
