The performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) led to the spreading of rumours regarding the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, as the 10-year dominance of the Indian team over Australia in Test Cricket has finally come to an end. Notably, the Aussies claimed the series 3-1 with a win in the New Year’s Test in Sydney.

One of the biggest decisions was Rohit Sharma dropping himself from the fifth Test match due to his terrible performances with the bat. This got people to question his future in the game but during a post-match interview saying that he is still going to be in the scheme of things. This interview from Rohit Sharma has led former Australian cricketer and commentator Simon Katich to take a slight dig at the India skipper and said that he has a great future in Stand-up comedy along with this he also talks about the difficulties he might face in the England Test series which will be coming up in June.

“Well, if you look at the numbers, they are damning. We saw it in this Test. It was very selfless of him to opt out of the Test, I saw in that interview, very well-spoken. There’s no doubt he has a future after he is done playing cricket in stand-up comedy because his humour was very good, Katich spoke on Star Sports.

“Only he knows whether he has the hunger and drive at 37 to go again. England is not going to be an easy series, England are on their way up. They have some good young quicks coming through. Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse are doing well. I dare say that will be a tough tour if he chooses to go on it and the Indian selectors pick him, first and foremost, Katich added.

Rohit had forgetful BGT 2024-25 against Australia with the bat

Meanwhile, speaking of Rohit Sharma, the regular Indian Test skipper had a terrible series in Australia. In the BGT 2024-25 Test series, Team India’s premier opener only managed to score 31 runs in the three matches. As the leader of the team, he scored with an abysmal average of just 6.20. Notably, this was also the worst average for a Test captain touring in Australia.
