New Zealand international Devon Conway is in terrific form in the ongoing IPL 2023. In nine matches so far, the 31-year-old has hit five half-centuries and has managed to give Chennai Super Kings great starts. Meanwhile, talking about his journey so far in the competition and especially about his skipper MS Dhoni, the opener mentioned that the 41-year-old has backed him massively and it has helped Conway settle down really quickly.

Conway also mentioned that he has come to India after playing a lot of Test cricket and thus, he had to prepare a lot before going all guns blazing in the cash-rich league. He also talked about the fact that he is playing with a lot of freedom and that has helped him to get the job done for the four-time champions. Notable, he is currently second in the list of IPL Orange Cap, with 414 runs in nine matches so far.

“Having MS Dhoni as the leader, as our captain is very special for me. Just having his experience and his backing is very helpful for me as a cricketer. The way he goes about his business, being very super calm, relaxed, not really panicking too much and it sort of helps me as a player to go out there and just relax and just enjoy the occasion and just play with freedom. Getting that sense of backing from him is crucial and beneficial for a player,” Conway said in an interview shared by CSK.

“I’ve just come out of playing a fair bit of test cricket. So for me, I had to prepare and it’s just about changing that mindset into the T20 mode, just sort of going over some of the options that I’d normally take in T20 cricket and the mindset obviously shifts to a little bit more positive and attacking mindset. But other than that I don’t try to change too much,” he added.

The dashing cricketer also mentioned that he is very happy to be a part of the CSK clan as the environment is the best he has ever been a part of. He also mentioned that the culture is really good in the Chennai-based franchise as everyone is very welcoming.

“Being involved in the CSK set-up is very special. You know the environment that we have here is a real family-oriented environment where people get along well with each other and the culture is really good. Everyone’s warm and welcoming. It’s probably one of the best environments that I’ve been part of,” he concluded.
