The Indian bowling attack has been a mixed bag this season, with Jasprit Bumrah carrying the load of the team on the field. India Test captain Rohit Sharma was questioned on the bowlers and their performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, where the side seems to be lacking consistency while playing Down Under.

The series is currently tied at 1-1 and the all-important Boxing Day Test at the MCG is set to be a do-or-die encounter for both teams to keep the series alive. Though there is still a lot of criticism of the approach of the Indian batters, the bowlers have also faced some difficulties as they were completely dominated by the Australian batters in the last two Test matches in Adelaide and Brisbane.

Despite this, captain Rohit has maintained an equal amount of belief in their bowling attack, and has also praised the attitude of the bowlers to show the temperament as and when needed for the team. He further believed in them to stand to the occasion at the ‘G for the Boxing Day’ encounter.

“For me as a captain, my messaging to them is very plain and simple. Keep running hard and keep doing what you have been doing. They have done the job in the past. It is not that they cannot do it now,” said the Indian captain on Tuesday, December 24.

“Anyone can have tough days, tough games, tough series. But it does not mean that they are not good enough to perform at this level. It happened so that in these two or three games, they have not been able to get those big numbers. But that is okay. It happens. But I have enough confidence and faith in them. The attitude is what matters to me. And Siraj has really shown a great attitude on this tour so far,” he added.

Indian pacers Down Under in numbers

Jasprit Bumrah has been the only bowler for India who has shown consistency in the series, not only being the highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets to his name but also having an economy of 2.60 and averaging only 10.90. Besides the Ahmedabad-born, Mohammed Siraj might have some wickets to his name and a great average, but his runs coming thick and fast off his bowling have been a bit of a problem for the tourists. None of the other bowlers have risen to the occasion so far.
