In a gripping finale at the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, India found themselves facing a daunting task against Australia. With the scorecard reading 151/8 and a target of 254 runs looming large, pacer Naman Tiwari shared a moment of resolve with his partner Murugan Abhishek. Tiwari’s words echoed determination, stating they might lose but won’t return empty-handed, vowing to learn from the experience.

Abhishek responded with a resounding four down the ground off Tom Straker. However, their partnership was short-lived as both fell soon after. India’s innings folded at 174, conceding victory to Australia by 79 runs. The viral stump mic video captured their spirit, resonating with cricket fans worldwide and back home in India. Tiwari, the left-arm fast-medium bowler, snatched 12 wickets at an average of 19.83, while Abhishek, the off-spinner, claimed three scalps. Indian U-19 skipper Uday Saharan admitted to lapses in batting discipline, and acknowledged erratic shot selection in their final defeat against Australia in Benoni. The team faltered, bundled out for 174 chasing 259, with Adarsh Singh (47) and Murugan Abhishek (42) showing resistance. Saharan emphasised the need for better shot selection. Despite their efforts, the Men in Blue couldn’t muster the required runs, signalling areas for improvement in their approach to future encounters.

“We played a few rash shots, couldn’t spend more time at the crease. We had prepared, but couldn’t execute. It was a very good tournament. I am very proud of the boys, they all played very well. They all showed great fighting spirit from the start, very proud of them,” said Saharan as quoted by Sports Star.
