After years of heartbreak, South Africa finally qualified for the final of an ICC event in 2024. The Aiden Markram-led side was undefeated in the tournament and defeated Afghanistan to qualify for the final, where they faced an extremely strong opponent in India. On the night of the final, South Africa looked good and were on the verge of winning the trophy but the last five overs went against them, resulting in a heartbreaking seven-run defeat.
Reflecting upon that, star Proteas player David Miller stated that he was gutted after the loss and mentioned that it was a tough pill to sorrow. The 35-year-old had the opportunity to win the game for South Africa in the final over but an excellent catch from Suryakumar Yadav sent him packing, resulting in their defeat. Miller added that the journey was incredible and believes that the team has resilience and would raise the bar in the future.
“I am gutted!! Really tough pill to swallow after what transpired 2 days ago. Words don’t explain how I am feeling. One thing I do know is how proud I am of this unit. This journey was an incredible one, with highs and lows throughout the entire month. We have endured pain, but I know this team has the resilience and will keep raising the bar,” Miller wrote on his Instagram story.
