Gus Atkinson is all set to play a key role for England during their upcoming three-match Test series against Pakistan. The first match is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 7, at the Multan Cricket Stadium, in Multan.

Ahead of the first Test, Atkinson asserted that the England team had gotten used to the hot and humid conditions in Pakistan. He said that he would try to pick the brains of players who have played in Pakistan before. However, the 26-year-old clearly stated that he won’t deviate too much from his natural game.

“It’s obviously a lot hotter than England. The weather’s quite bad there now, but yeah, it was very hot here. We had a good training session yesterday and got used to the weather. Today, it feels a lot easier training. I’m just trying not to do anything different. I know the conditions are different, so I’ll speak to people who have played here before and try to learn from them. But I’m going to play my own game and do what works for me,” Atkinson said in a video posted by Pakistan Cricket on X.

Atkinson had a dream Test debut in July against the West Indies as he bagged 12 wickets at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. He went on to be bagged the Player of the Series award after finishing with 22 wickets from three games. In just six Test so far in his career, the right-arm seamer has picked up 34 wickets at an average of 20.18. He will want to do well on his first Test assignment away from home.

We’ve got a lot of young bowlers who are ready to go: Gus Atkinson

According to several experts, Gus Atkinson has the potential to become the spearhead of England’s bowling lineup for a very long time. After legends like James Anderson and Stuart Broad bid farewell to the game in consecutive years, the onus is on the next generation of England seamers like Atkinson and Matthew Potts to showcase their talent.

“We’ve lost a few senior players over the years and are missing some players due to injury. But we have a really good bowling attack here. We’ve got a lot of young bowlers who are ready to go, and Chris Woakes has been around for a long time, so he’s very experienced. As I said, we’ve got a lot of young bowlers ready to go,” Atkinson added.
