Women Premier League (WPL) franchise Gujarat Giants part ways with Indian legend Mithali Raj ahead of the auction. A big surprise considering that the 2017 Women’s World Cup finalist had a contract for three years as the mentor and advisor to the team. Some big decisions are being taken by the management ahead of the tournament.

After the IPL it is the WPL 2025 auction which is going which is going to take place on the 15th of December. This will be the third edition of the tournament which will feature some of the top players in women’s cricket from all over the world. It will be great to see which team will make the best team going forward in the auction.

Though the auction has not started there is still some drama that takes place before these events where some decisions have to be made. One of the tough decisions before the auction was taken by Gujarat Giants since former legendary batter Mithali Raj will not be lending her services to the franchise as a mentor and advisor.

There were already speculations about her continuing her work with the team when she took up a role with the Andhra Cricket Association. However, it has still come as a surprise considering she had a 3-year contract with the side. Apart from Raj Giants bowling coach Nooshin Al Khadeer has also decided not to renew her contract with the team as well and is currently serving as the coach of the India U19 Women’s team.

There seem to be some big changes being made within the Gujarat Giants side considering their performances in the first two editions. The Giants have finished at the bottom of the table in the last two seasons and this leads to some changes that have to be made. Apart from changes in the management the team still has a relatively strong core with players like Beth Mooney, Laura Wolvaardt, and Ashleigh Gardener being retained.
