In the aftermath of India’s victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, a gesture by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has been praised by fans worldwide. The moment when both the modern-day greats invited head coach Rahul Dravid to join the trophy celebrations shows the team’s unity and respect for their mentors.

India’s path to glory in the T20 World Cup 2024 ended in a nail-biting final against South Africa in Barbados on June 29. The team fought back from a precarious position to clinch a seven-run victory, ending a long wait for an ICC trophy.

VVS Laxman, former India batter and current head of the National Cricket Academy, emphasized the significance of this victory and the emotions it stirred.

The celebrations that followed saw raw emotions and team spirit. Laxman particularly noted the reaction of his former teammate and departing head coach, Dravid.

“And then someone like Rahul, with whom I have played so much cricket, I have known him for so many years, for him to show so much emotions, first when the last ball was bowled and the conversations he was having with various team members,” Laxman added.

Sharma and Kohli’s initiative to bring Dravid into the limelight during the trophy celebration was a highlight of the event. The emotional outpouring wasn’t limited to Dravid according to VVS.

“Everyone showed their emotions. It showed how much it meant to each and every player of that squad. It’s not only the playing XI. Even the support staff and the coaching staff, the emotions were high. You saw Hardik Pandya break down and show his emotions after bowling the last over. We saw Rohit Sharma on the ground,” he concluded.
