The National Sports Council (NSC) recently revealed the details of the process behind the appointment of Faruque Ahmed and Nazmul Abedeen Fahim as directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
The appointments came after a significant BCB board meeting was held at the sports ministry, where Ahmed was elected as the new BCB president.
This meeting also saw the NSC nominate Faruque and Fahim as BCB directors, replacing Sajjadul Alam Bobby and Jalal Yunus. These changes have sparked discussions about the NSC’s role and authority in BCB’s functioning.
“On the other hand, Mr. Faruque Ahmed and Mr. Nazmul Abedin Fahim have been nominated by the National Sports Council in the director category according to Article 13.2 (kha) 4 of the constitution, which is being widely appreciated,” NSC press release read.

Nominations made on the philosophy of jurisprudence: NSC
The NSC’s revelation emphasized that the nominations were made by the BCB’s constitution. Specifically, it cited Article 9.3.2 regarding Yunus’s resignation and Fahim’s subsequent appointment as a councillor. Furthermore, the NSC called on Article 13.2 (kha) 4 to justify the nomination of both Faruque and Fahim as directors.
“By Article 9.3.2 of the Constitution of Bangladesh Cricket Board, Mr. Mohammad Jalal Yunus resigned on August 19, 2024 from among the 05 (five) representatives previously nominated by the National Sports Council in the Councillor category and Mr. Nazmul Abedin Fahim was appointed for the 01 (one) stated vacant post Nominated by Sports Council,” the press release added.
However, the process has not been without controversy. Sajjadul Alam Bobby, one of the replaced directors, expressed his disagreement with the NSC’s actions, describing them as “direct interference” in BCB’s operations. NSC’s press release also touched upon broader objectives.
“Such nominations are made based on the Philosophy of Jurisprudence with the utmost careful application of prevailing rules. The government is committed to keeping the activities of all federations/associations, including the Bangladesh Cricket Board fair, efficient, active, and uninterrupted. The cooperation of all quarters is hoped for in the progress of advancing the field of sports in the country,” the press release concluded.
