Australia’s 295-run battering at the hands of India in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has left them with a steep hurdle to climb. Meanwhile, another issue which has plagued the hosts in Adelaide was Josh Hazlewood’s remarks after the completion of Day 3. Australia gave up a substantial lead on the preceding day after a disappointing batting display as they lost three wickets by stumps on the third day. Following that, the seamer had remarked that it was up to the batters to take the onus for the underwhelming performance.
However, his remarks were taken out of context and ther was widespread speculation of a split in the Australian dressing room. Skipper Pat Cummins, debunked the rumours and shared that some commentators had, intentionally or unintentionally, tried to make a big deal out of Hazlewood’s comments.
“The team’s great. Some of the commentators got that 100% wrong. We’ve prepared like we always do and get around each other. It’s a great feeling around the team. We don’t make too much of it. When things don’t go right, there’s enough commentators that will support you but also some that will, of course, create some headlines. We try not to take too much notice of it. We just go about our things,” Cummins was quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald.
He’s really confident for the Gabba: Cummins
Cummins further elaborated on Hazlewood’s status for the third Test. He notified that Hazlewood, who will be missing the upcoming Test due to a side strain, will be raring to go come the third Test.
“He’s really confident for the Gabba. He had a good bowl yesterday [Wednesday] only like three quarters [pace]. It went beautifully. It’s probably the right call in hindsight. I think in previous years, we just kept bowling [him]. It’s probably turned that one-week injury into a three, four or five-week injury, whereas this year it seems a little bit different,” he added.
Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers in the first Test for Australia. Scott Boland will be replacing him for the day-night Test at the Adelaide Oval.
