Going into this T20 World Cup is the most confident I have felt: Heather Knight

Going into this T20 World Cup is the most confident I have felt Heather Knight

Captain Heather Knight is confident of England doing well in the upcoming T20 World Cup, slated to begin on October 3. Defending champions Australia are once again the popular favorites but Knight believes her side is confident of beating their arch-rivals. It has been 15 years since England women last won the coveted trophy and as per Knight, the time has come to change that.

Knight noted that the Ashes 2023 changed how they see the Australian team, who have dominated women’s cricket in the last decade. They defeated the Alyssa Healy-led side 2-1 in the three-match T20I series and that has given England necessary confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup. Knight added that the mindset has changed and they are ready to perform in big pressure situations.

“We have probably had a bit of a hoodoo around Australia but the Ashes last summer changed that. I think that was when as a team we believed we could beat Australia, we were good enough to beat them, and competing against them really hard. I think that change of mindset is a really important one,” Knight told Sky Sports.

“I think going into this World Cup is the most confident I have felt. It doesn’t guarantee anything but we are prepared, settled, and have the best squad depth we have had. We feel like any player we play in that 15 can make an impact in the England side and that is a good place to be and is pushing us forward. Then it is just performing in the big moments,” she added.

England will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Bangladesh in Sharjah. They would also play South Africa, Scotland, and West Indies in the group stage as only two teams would go on to qualify for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, England would play a bilateral series against Ireland and will also play Australia and New Zealand in warm-up games leading to the T20 World Cup.
