Glenn Maxwell’s outstanding innings in the third T20I on November 28  between Australia and India at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati led his team to victory and also kept the series alive.

Former Indian pacer and renowned commentator, Ashish Nehra praised Maxwell’s performance, highlighting his ability to take on challenging targets. Maxwell’s unbeaten 104 off 48 deliveries, featuring eight boundaries and as many sixes, left Nehra in awe.

“With the way he was batting (always looked like he was going to do it). In these conditions, in a 200-plus chase, he will always back himself. Coming back to Glenn Maxwell, we have seen in the past as well how well he can construct a chase. You’re talking about Glenn Maxwell, he doesn’t like to do only easy things, he likes to do really, really, tough things and he has done it again,” said Nehra speaking to Jio Cinema after the match.

Nehra emphasized that even if Maxwell hadn’t played in this T20I series, he would have returned home happy after being part of Australia’s victorious 2023 ODI World Cup squad. Nehra believes that Maxwell’s outstanding inning in the T20I has added another layer of joy to his homecoming.

“Glenn Maxwell would have gone home happy even if he hadn’t played in this series because he won the World Cup. Definitely after this innings, the series is still alive. He is going to go home even happier,” Nehra added.

These days, there is more consistency: Nehra

Nehra further highlighted that Maxwell’s recent performances demonstrate increased consistency compared to earlier hit-and-miss innings.

“This is not the first time he has done something like this. But earlier, it was more hit-and-miss, but these days, there is more consistency. For a guy like him, I would not even say 2 out of 5 games, if he can do it in 2 out of say 8 games, his team is going to win. So the consistency is great now, “Nehra further said.

The 3rd T20I match was a rollercoaster, with India posting a formidable total of 222 for 3, thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s sensational unbeaten 123. In the second innings, Travis Head gave Australia a brisk start, but it was the Maxwell show that turned the tide. Australia ultimately won the match by five wickets, setting the stage for an exciting fourth T20I in Raipur on Friday, December 1.
