Australia batter, Glenn Maxwell is eyeing a spot in the Test team, and the batter will hope for a comeback in Tests by featuring in the Sheffield Shield cricket. Maxwell was last featured in Australia against Bangladesh in the Whites in 2017. The right-handed batter has played only seven red-ball games, scoring 339 runs at an average of 26.07.

The veteran aims for Australia’s tour to Sri Lanka in January and February 2025 as the comeback series to Tests. Ahead of the summer, Victoria’s captain, Will Sutherland, revealed that Maxwell will play some games in the Sheffield Shield. It is worth noting that, the 36-year-old last played for Victoria in Sheffield Shield in February 2023.

“I think he’ll be available for a couple and I believe he’s keen to play as well. Obviously, things can change with him playing at the moment, but to have a player like Glenn potentially come into our side is a bit of a luxury, so hopefully that can work out nicely,” said Sutherland as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Speaking of Sutherland, the 24-year-old is coming off a stress fracture and he said that he will be curbing his desire to roll the arm. The all-rounder further added that though he might end up bowling some overs, he cannot prolong the drill and also hinted at missing some games for Victoria owing to workload issues.

“I’ll be able to play the first game, probably, I just won’t be able to bowl as many overs as I would like. I’ll be on restrictions. What that looks like will depend on how Friday goes. But, yeah, there’ll be limits for sure. I think the main issue is bowling back-to-back days, so I’ll be able to bowl a fair bit on one day, but then unfortunately, the next day we’ll be in a bit of strife. So it does create some issues at times. But we’ll just have to work through that and maybe miss the odd game here and there,” he added.
