According to former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir, the Indian teams should be selected depending on how well their players perform in domestic competitions. According to him, the selection of the T20 teams ought to be predicated on the players’ IPL results. The ODI team should also be selected in accordance with Vijay Hazare. On the other hand, first class cricket player performances will be used to choose the Test team.
During a conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin on his Kutty series on YouTube, the dynamic Gambhir spoke his opinions without holding back. Amidst the approaching ICC T20 World Cup, concerns have been expressed regarding the choice and rejection of some players.
“You can only select the T20 side from IPL. You should never select your 50 over side looking at T20 or IPL. If domestic players starts talking about how they can get selected in IPL from first class cricket, then your focus starts shifting,” Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir continued his explanation, saying that if the younger players used similar shortcuts, they would be walking into danger. He continued by saying that in order for these young athletes to have a chance and contribute successfully for Team India, they must be balanced in all areas.
“T20 World Cup and T20 side for India should be selected from IPL. A fifty over format should be selected from Vijay Hazare Trophy. And your Test side should be selected from first class cricket. As simple as it can get. If you start selecting people in 50-over format, then you are making a lot of shortcuts for a lot of young players,” Gambhir added.
