Star Australia batter David Warner retired from Test cricket after the final match of the three-match series against Pakistan. The southpaw represented Australia in 112 Tests, scoring 8786 at an average of 44.59 and 26 centutries, which cemented his legacy as one of the greatest Test openers of all time. He made 57 in his final appearance before walking off to a standing ovation from the Sydney crowd.

When he first burst into the scene, there were a lot of doubts regarding his calibre in the longest format, as many considered him an ideal white-ball cricketer. Warner, however, defied all the odds and turned out to be a match-winner in red-ball cricket, which also impressed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The former cricketer also lauded Warner for having an extraordinary career and appreciated his transition and evolution in the game.

“From being an explosive T20 batter to becoming a resilient Test player, @davidwarner31’s journey exemplifies adaptability and grit. His transition and evolution in the game has been remarkable, showcasing aggressive intent while mastering the art of pacing an innings. Congratulations on a wonderful Test career, David! Best wishes to you and your family,” Tendulkar tweeted.
