Star Indian batter Virat Kohli recently made headlines with his statement expressing his desire to visit Pakistan, which has gained significant traction on social media. Pakistani fans have warmly welcomed Kohli’s words, showing the cross-border camaraderie in cricket.
Former Pakistan legendary batter Shahid Afridi responded to Kohli’s statement, praising him for being an ambassador for his country. Afridi expressed his expectations by saying he had anticipated such a statement from Kohli. He thanked Kohli and extended an invitation for him to come to Pakistan and play in the PSL or with the Indian team, adding that it would be great if Kohli visited with the Indian team.
“Virat Kohli’s statement showed that such cricketers are the ambassadors of their country. I had expected the same kind of statement from Virat Kohli. Thank you so much, Virat. We are waiting for you to come to Pakistan and play in PSL or with the Indian team. It would be good if you came with the Indian team,” Afridi was quoted as saying by Odisha TV.
The cricketing ties between India and Pakistan have been strained for years due to political issues and terror incidents. As a result, the two teams only meet during ICC tournaments. Afridi has long advocated for the Indian government to permit their cricket team to play in Pakistan, aiming to revive bilateral series that have been suspended.
